Samsung just launched two of their giant smartphones which are Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+. The phones are launched at Samsung Unpacked 2015 event which was held in New York and London. Samsung Galaxy Note 5 is made of metal while the back of Galaxy S6 Edge+ is made of glass with an aluminum frame.
Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+ Launched
Both of Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+ are feature of 5.7-inch screen, which is the same size as the model of Note 4 that being launched last year. However, these two models are covered by glass and metal instead of plastic. Samsung also consistently complete its smartphone with the best and the brightest screen with the use of AMOLED technology with a resolution of 2560 x 1440. Both have a pixel density of 518ppi.
What is so special about Galaxy Note 5 is that it comes with S-Pen, a feature popular with users of earlier models of Note series. It also has a curved back which allows users to hold it comfortably.
While for Galaxy S6 Edge+, it has a design similar to the Galaxy S6 Edge which was released last April, and is equipped with a curved screen on the sides.
For Blackberry smartphone users, they are also given special attention when this Samsung smartphones are in the making with a physical keyboard accessory attached in both of these models.
Note 5 has a size of 153.2 x 76.1 x 7.6mm and weighs 171g while the Galaxy S6 Edge+ has dimensions 154.4 x 75.8 x 6.9mm and weighs 153g. So you need to use both hands for typing messages on the smartphone. As rumored, too, both are not equipped MicroSD card slot and removable battery.
Samsung display large reforms in the specification and camera compare to last year’s model. 16MP main camera equipped on both of these Samsung smartphones is an advanced camera for taking high quality pictures and video. This is not just a marketing gimmick but is a sincere implementation to please the users.
They are equipped with Exynos 7420 octa-core processor which is the same with Galaxy S6. It has 4GB of RAM and is runs with Android 5.1 OS. However, users have a choice of 32GB or 64GB of storage space. There is no 128GB storage space available. We are somewhat surprising given that it does not come with a MicroSD card slot.
The battery has been reduced from 3,220mAh in Note 4 to 3,000mAh in Note 5. Both are features with wireless charging capabilities and are compatible with PMA and WPC standards.
Samsung has also included a Samsung Pay to compete with Apple Pay and Android Pay. With the available of NFC and MST payment method, Samsung claims it can work on more payment terminal than Apple iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.
Prices and Sales
In the United States, Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus is priced at USD814.99 for the 32GB storage model and USD914.99 for the 64GB model. The quoted selling price is without a contract. While for Galaxy Note 5, it is priced at USD739.99 for the 32GB model and USD839.99 for the 64GB model. The selling price also is without a contract. It is expected to go on sale in the United States on 21 August.
The selling price and date of sale in Malaysia and globally has yet to be announced.
