Why Security Systems are Necessary

March 11th, 2010 Jeffrey Jackson No comments

Rising crime rates can have us nervous about our home security. Property crime is rising along with the rest of the statistics, and is steadily becoming the largest crime happening in America. Because of this security systems are rising in popularity.

Security systems protect homes and families from harm. Homes are meant to be a place of refuge from the world. A security system allows this to be a reality.

Security systems give your home a much higher chance of not being burglarized, and keeps your family members out of harms way. Homes with out security systems will quickly find themselves targets to property crimes. We often live with a false sense of security.

Concern for the safety of your family is only natural. It is understandable that many people want to protect their property. Alarm systems make this more possible.

Statistics have shown that a home without an alarm is broken in to twice as often as those that do have a system in place. A lot of burglaries happen during the day while you are at work, but sometimes they happen during the day while you are at home. They also can break in to your home during the night while you are home and vulnerable.

Alarm systems make your home safer at any time of the day. Whether it is night time or day time, your home is monitored by your security company. It is reassuring to know that your home is being monitored by a professional security company at all times.

If a burglar knows your home has a home alarm, they often stay away. If they decide to take the risk, once the alarm sounds more often than not the burglar decides to not stick around for the police. When someone breaks in to your home, an alarm also warns you of it so you can take the necessary precautions you know to get your family out of harms way.

There are a lot of benefits involved with using alarm systems. Being able to live in a secure home will allow your home to be the refuge you hope it to be. Install an alarm system today.

Staying Safe While at College

March 9th, 2010 Jeffrey Jackson No comments

Home safety is important at any time of life. Just because you are living in an apartment and going to college does not mean you should forget basic home safety skills. Here are a few suggestions on ways to improve your personal and home safety while at school. Home safety starts by following your instincts. If you do not feel right about something, or feel it is not safe, it probably isn’t. Don’t go there. There is safety in numbers, which is why dorm mates are important. Don’t go to parties or activities alone. Be aware of possible dating scenarios that can happen. Be smart about the people you date.

Follow your instincts to stay out of dangerous situations and areas. Stay safe on dates by being alert to the possible use of “date rape drugs”. Never take drinks from other people, and don’t leave your drink unattended. Avoid excessive alcohol which can dull your senses.

Avoid going on dates with strangers; get to know each other in a more public setting first. When you go out, let a trusted friend know where you are going and when you expect to be back. Walk with confidence, and keep your keys handy. If you are being followed, cross the street, run to an occupied house or store. Home safety tips still apply with apartments and dorms.

Keep your apartment safe by not loaning out your keys. Lock your doors and windows whenever you leave. Replace your locks if a key is lost or stolen. Outside home safety is important as well. Use adequate lighting around your entrance-ways. Don’t position plants or furniture in such a way that someone could use it as a hiding place. Home safety is very important when meeting new people. Use caution when answering the door, especially for strangers. Women, especially those living alone, should only use their first initial and their last name on their mail box and in phone directories. When driving, don’t pick up hitchhikers. Keep your windows and doors locked, and park in well-lit parking areas.

Having a cell phone with you for emergencies is added insurance. Our last home safety tips while at college is to be smart about the sororities or fraternities you join, and know ahead of time what they expect from you. Avoid groups that expect you to do dangerous or illegal activities as part of your initiation. Use caution when posting personal information on the Internet or around campus.

Modern Technology Makes Homes Safer

March 9th, 2010 Roger Bailey No comments

So much money is lost every year from owners of homes due to burglary. Crime statistics show a steady rise in crime rate. Home burglaries, business invasions, and property crimes are still happening frequently.

A lot more people are installing home security systems in their homes, and business security systems in their businesses than ever before. People have started to fight back against these home attacks. When your home is a target, having your home monitored by security professionals is an easy choice to make.

There are different security systems that can be used to protect your home or business. A lot of people choose to use the security that a video alarm surveillance system offers. They offer a lot of advantages to the owner of the home or business.

There are different types of video surveillance to choose from. Mini spy cameras, wireless cameras, and night vision cameras are only a few of the many types of cameras that can be used to monitor your home or business. It is important to use the right type of camera at your location.

When you are picking out your camera take in to effect the size of the area you will be surveying and the lighting that will be available. You will need a different camera at your front entrance of your home, for example, than one you would use in a convenience store. When you have installed your video make sure to advertise that you are recording their actions.

This will alert people that you are watching them and help them decide to not do criminal activities at your establishment. While this can be a great way of deterring criminals from doing a crime, having an alarm security system in place will catch them if they do decide to follow through with a crime. An alarm security system will alert you when a crime happens.

Modern technology makes it possible to track the sounds of breaking-and-entering. Glass break detectors can sense when a window is broken by listening to the frequency. Security systems also use movement sensors to trigger an alarm when someone enters your home.

Security professionals can meet with you to discuss ways to protect your business or home. They are best able to help you come up with a security plan. They also have the best information regarding the types of security and surveillance technology that is available.

Glass Break Sensors Explained

March 7th, 2010 Jeffrey Jackson No comments

You can protect your home from burglary and home invasion in a variety of ways. The best way is to use a working security system. Security systems have a lot of parts that connect with each other and work with one another.

Security systems can also include glass detectors. When glass is broken it emits a distinct sound. That frequency of sound that is found when the window shatters can be tuned in to with the help of a glass detector.

Glass detectors are also called “audio discriminators”. Audio discriminators tune in to specific sound frequencies. Glass detectors happen to tune in to the sound of breaking glass.

Security systems use glass break detectors as an additional security measure. They work well with motion detector alarm systems. You can use glass break monitors near windows and glass doors.

Glass detectors are normally placed in areas of the home that have a lot of windows. Living rooms are good places to put the alarm system. That way your home will have another alarm backup in case of a break in.

There are two types of audio discriminators on the market: single technology and duel technology. The single technology glass detector tunes in to the sound of breaking glass. Duel technology is a more advanced form of detector, which can also listen to the thud that happens before the window breaks.

Single technology uses the tool of listening for sounds of glass breaking or wood breaking. That way, if a burglar were entering in to your home by breaking a window the alarm would hear it and it would turn on. Single technology glass detectors, however, does have the drawback that it can sometimes go off when non threatening things happen to it, so be careful where you place the alarm in your home.

Duel technology reduces the chance of false alarms. It listens to the frequency of breaking glass, but take an extra step to listen for a thud or point of impact as well. It still is on alert for any sound of breaking glass, but it can tell the difference between a burglar prying open a window with a crowbar as opposed to a couple toasting with wine glasses.

The Use Of Video Surveillance For Record Tracking

February 18th, 2010 John Dawkins No comments

Homeowner setting up home security cameras nowadays in order to have a more secured and worry-free home is becoming a trend. For those that are not so familiar with this topic, it may seem complicated and too techie. Nevertheless, video surveillance is no longer that complex. It is just like one of those home entertainment systems that you’ve acquired. Below, you will know more about home surveillance system, their uses and how they came to be as well as their benefits and their basic components.

Video surveillance systems are used to record events at a specific location, relay the feed to a monitor, and record the feed on either videotape or a DVD. The live feed can be used to try to stop crime before it happens, or the recorded footage can be used to identity suspects. The first documented use of video surveillance was to observe and record launches of the V-2 rockets in 1942. The town of Olean, New York, was the first to implement closed-circuit television (CCTV) to try to reduce crime on their main street. Since that time CCTV systems have proliferated in many cities, businesses and homes to prevent and fight crime.

Currently, an ongoing debate exists concerning the effectiveness of security cameras at reducing crime. A four-year study conducted in San Francisco by the UC Center for Information Technology Research in the Interest of Society found that a security camera could reduce petty crime by up to 24%, but seemed to have little effect on violent crime. A similar study conducted in London, the city with more cameras than any other, revealed that the cameras are not as effective at deterring crime as most people would like to believe. However, the cameras can help authorities identify suspects or generate leads, as well as make many people feel safer.

A debate on whether or not security cameras are effective for slowing down crime rate has been going on for some time now. A four year study has been conducted at the UC Center for Information Technology Research in the Interest of Society in San Francisco and has confirmed that 24% of minor crimes have gone down. Violent and major crimes has not been affected that much though. In London, a similar study was also conducted and has shown that security cameras are not very effective tools, as believed by the majority, when it comes to crime prevention. Although this has been proven by many researchers in the past, nobody can deny the fact that security cameras are very useful in tracking down such criminal acts and help identify lawbreakers. The components of a home surveillance system are primarily composed of a security camera, transmission, device, monitor and a recording device. The various parts of a surveillance device can be modified to create a simple surveillance system or a complex one. They can be used indoor or outdoor with an array of lenses designed for different functions.

The lenses are recognized by their field of view and focal length. The focal length determines how clear and object is at a distance while the field of view can be determined by the actual size of the location. Not all regular security cameras are fixed to have pan, tilt and zoom features similar to ordinary cameras. The camera feeds are transferred through coaxial cables, fiber optics or a network connection. Coaxial cables are designed for short distances whereas fiber optics and network connections are for maximum range.

Monitors are created for video signals acceptance only and are usually 17″ and 52″ big. Through these monitors, users can view multiple cameras on a single screen or cycle between various camera feeds. The recording device is the last component of a video surveillance system. The most recommended choice is the digital video recorders for the reason that they can acquire and record footage at a superior resolution and they make it easy finding a particular footage.

Find the right security cameras for your security camera needs. They can help in the protection of your household or organization with little to no cost to you. Latest reports often show that security cameras greatly reduce crime levels.
