Olympus MJU 850SW Digital Camera Review

February 7th, 2010 admin Leave a comment Go to comments

This compact camera is a little different from the rest of the bunch. You can dive right in and take pics under water. Check out our video review.

The Olympus MJU 850 SW digital digital camera is really a bit various to most other people about the marketplace. You are able to drop it from 1.5m and immerse it in water to some depth of 3m and it’ll carry on operating. It’s 1 from the really couple of customer degree digital cameras that you could do this with. The MJU 850 SW has 8 megapixels along with a 3x optical zoom lens.

Most digital cameras carry a minimum of .3 seconds to carry a shot, so the .27 seconds posted through the MJU 850 SW is quicker than regular. 5 pictures took a respectable 8.07 seconds. Using the flash turned on times remained pretty quick. 1 shot took .47 and 5 had been timed at 14.85 seconds.

The MJU 850 SW is compatible with xD image memory cards. There’s sufficient memory constructed in to shop close to 5 shots.

I see the Olympus MJU 850 SW like a digital camera that you could use just about anyplace. The image high quality might be much better, so it is much more most likely to appeal to somebody who’s following a snapshot digital camera they are able to have enjoyable with instead of 1 which will create the ideal image.

Even though each and every work is created to make sure the accuracy from the info on this website, please make certain you double verify the function set and specification in the point of buy.

i have one. how to snap a panorama picture? the option is disable for any type of pic scenes!! could anybody tell how. i’m using 4G XD M+ card.

    Yes it records videos.

You have to use a Olympus XD M+ or H memory card to record at the best quality for the length of the card. You can record at 640×480 30 fps up to 18 minutes and 14 seconds on a 2GB XD M+ card.

If you are using the included MicroSD to XD adapter you can only record at 640×480 30fps for 10 second clips. If you want to record lower on this adapter you have to lower the fps to 15 or switch to QVGA mode.

I own one, got wet and destroyed; send it for free repair under garantee; but they told me that if it gets wet again they won’t fix it.

Woulden’t the water get into the camera through the little holes in the speaker?

If you want something purely for doing this, then go for a Creative Vado. If you need the underwater ability though, then this is good, but for video you need good visibility.

Good review but I am also interested in the video/sound quality of this camera. Would you recommend it for shooting youtube videos?

Amazing review Dave! I like how you show more than just the camera, you give the whole picture and all you get. Thanks for another great review!

well i was just guessing that the picture would blur since, ya know, it was under water

Hi there, as you can see from the images on the Geekanoids website (just under the review), the water does not blur the photo. This was in a well lit pool, so in the sea it might be a bit more murky, but the flash would help there. The performance of this camera for the price is amazing.

but wouldn’t water blur the picture that you would be taking underwater?

great review as always, I owned an Olympus awhile back and never had any complaints about it, so I can imagine not a whole lot has changed with the cameras they’ve produced since then… by the way, what video format does this camera shoot in, and is it iMovie compatible?
