My New Camera “Canon PowerShot SD790 IS” Unboxing and Rant

September 27th, 2009 admin Leave a comment Go to comments

The Canon SD790 IS is really a 10 megapixel camera. It utilizes a rechargeable battery and accepts SD/SDHC storage cards. There’s no internal storage, so shooting might not be carried out without having a storage card. The camera as tested came inside a silver finish and felt robust, nearly large for that dimension. Actually, at 5.47 ounces it’s a little large for its dimension.

The lens is really a 3x optical zoom ranging from 6.2-18.6mm, which is really a pretty conservative 35-105mm in 35mm conditions. The aperture is much better than typical, although, ranging from f/2.8 in the broad end to f/4.9 at telephoto. Digital zoom can also be obtainable by way of the menus as much as 4x (for any combined 12x variety using the optical).<br> Regular shutter speeds variety from 1/60 to 1/1500 seconds, even though indicates are supplied for time exposures as much as 15 seconds. Shutter speeds obtainable depend upon the shooting mode chosen.

The Liquid crystal display measures 3. inches diagonally. There’s no optical viewfinder, so composition is carried out by way of the Liquid crystal display only; nevertheless, in contrast to numerous other LCD-only cameras, the SD790 IS display is very visible in nearly any light.

In one more pleasant shock, the SD790′s Liquid crystal display colour reproduction is exceptional, even though possibly with a little much more punch than the real picture.

The pictures created through the Canon PowerShot SD790 IS are usually very great. Nevertheless, I ended up with fewer keepers than regular because of concentrate problems and noise concerns using the SD790′s familiar 10 megapixel sensor.

Some will appreciate the SD790′s nonstandard ergonomics, however the unusual manage layout might detract from general usability of this camera for numerous. Some from the buttons appear superfluous and also the manage dial spins far as well effortlessly. I’ve utilized the manage dials for many years about the Canon SLRs and DSLRs and choose the sureness and purposefulness of them; regrettably, the SD790′s dial provides a a lot much more disconnected really feel that may make the camera difficult to handle at times.

General, the SD790 is really a logical upgrade in conditions of resolution to Canon’s Digital Elph line, along with a excellent display impresses. But with pretty traditional specs all close to along with a couple of rough edges, the SD790 does not usually reside as much as expectations.

Pros:

* Liquid crystal display is big and bright

* Fairly basic and intuitive indicates to obtain towards the typical settings, such as some customized button setup capability

* Quick start-up and continuous mode

* Optical picture stabilization

Cons:

* Manage layout odd, not usually nicely thought-out

* AF fussiness

* Noisy digital zoom

* No optical viewfinder

    Actually the Canon SD790 IS is one of the best cameras ever made by canon.

    The only one I would recommend is the Canon Powershot SX20IS 20x optical 58 digital zoom.
    It;s a bit big …but incredable.

    3X zoom is not enough if your using it outdoors because I have a Sony Cyber-shot 10.1 MP T300 with a 5X Zoom and thats barely enough so I got a 18X aswell.

    Its a great camera, but the only difference in video quality you will see with be marginal. Its a standard camera, My Grampa has one, its really only good for pictures, Its not HD video capable like the 780is, which im getting! But over all its a Canon, that speaks for itself. Canon is by far the best camera company out there.
