You cannot expect a consumer camera to have great audio that even expensive prosumer cameras struggle with. There are external mic’s (like Rode videomic) that takes care of this problem. It is better to have a great quality video, and decent audio, then great audio and decent quality video.

Actually.. I got one for about the same price as well, about $829, it is genuine and brand new. They also have a free gift package that you get if you order over the phone and that includes a table tripod, carrying case, screen protector, camera cleaning kit. Shipping is free too. I’m damn happy with my purchase and know there’s no where you can get a deal like that.. anyhow, I will post a review when I receive the camera in a few days. I’m absolutely thrilled to be a new owner of S10
would anyone say this is better than the sony cx-100?
It is expensive.. although the normal price is about 1200+/-, I got mine for $829 after shopping around, which makes it the best deal for one of the best consumer cameras that even pros can find acceptable for more than “home” use.

based on this review I purchased this camcorder. Now that I have owned the camera for couple of weeks,.. I can say I agree with your review except the audio portion of your review. This HF-S1o has the worst hum/hissing noise on the audio track I have ever experienced in a digital camcorder. I exchanged the camera for another of the same model, but much to my disappointment,.. the hissing is present on the second unit as well. Try to record a quit room and the playback audio is pathetic. Beware!

what about audio? Does it have an XLR port for boom mics? Becasue ive heard that the mics are ultra sensitive.
