Canon Powershot SD780 IS Camera

Just to create this obvious through the starting: the Canon PowerShot SD780 IS is not likely to beat out much more sophisticated point-and-shoots with regards to pure photographic power. With regards to specs, the SD780′s 3x zoom and 2.5 inch LCD might be forgettable, however the truth that it is only .7 inches thick is worth remembering.

As noted above, the SD780 is 1 of numerous new versions on this year’s line to function 720p movie capture. General, movie through the SD780 appears great, although users are presented with restricted choices for controlling movie exposure beyond one of the most fundamental settings.

Audio high quality isn’t as amazing, sounding like a standard nevertheless camera recording in most instances. Also, the SD780′s little form aspect can make it simple to accidentally and unknowingly cover the microphone, since it sits just beneath the lens.

Appear in the SD780′s specs sheet fundamentals – 3x zoom, 2.5 inch LCD, tiny viewfinder, and couple of controls created to appeal to sophisticated shooters – and its list cost of just a shade below $300 appears difficult to justify. Shoot using the camera for any small although, although, and you will rapidly determine that this really is a device that proves to become a lot much more than the sum of its components. Streamlined in each and every sense to fit using the type of casual, memory-capturing shooting that most of us engage in most from the time, the SD780 is really a camera that churns out excellent images without having fuss.

But Canon hasn’t ignored the truth that a camera at this cost stage requirements some thing to set it apart through the common picture getting pack, either. On this situation, that some thing is size, using the SD780 getting up much less square room than a charge card although remaining impressively thin in the exact same time. With excellent styling cues and superb construct, gadget fans will no doubt discover the SD780′s solid, ultra-reliable photographic overall performance to become just the icing about the cake.

We definitely desire the SD780′s lens was much better, in terms of versatility and overall performance, and Canon’s really aggressive processing is really a “love it or hate it” proposition for most. Assuming the street cost lands exactly where we anticipate it to, although, this really is 1 surprisingly versatile, surprisingly little, and – thinking about all of this – surprisingly inexpensive small ultracompact.

Thats stupid…, the sd790 does avi file output. And looks better… And better optics…

One solution is to shoot the assholes that developed windows.

Then go download some free kickass video editing software that you might not be able figure out.

It gets better when its cold and windy… I’ve got the 790… Your best bet is to use CHDK to control the camera using a laptop or micro-controller.

Just picked one up myself. Was a big fan of the earlier SD770IS and look forward to playing around with the 720 HD resolution.

Will post comprehensive hands on review soon.

If you want sharper and better image quality, better battery life, faster burst shooting, slighly brighter lens, and more powerful flash go with the SD1200.

If you want better styling and build quality, HD video, and compactness, go with tthe SD780.

Thanks for the info.. one question..
Will the higher resolution on the SD1200 help me when cropping photos.. or will the higher mega pixels in the SD 780 help more?

Doesn’t the SD1100 have just 8 megapixel? How is that better than the 780?

12 mp is not a big difference over 10 mp. You do get more room to crop photos in the SD780, but not by much. I wouldn’t worry too much about megapixels between 10 and 12. It’s not very noticeable except maybe in the noise, where 12mp on the same 1/2.3″ sensor produces more digital noise.

I wouldn’t say a 4-ounce camera that takes near flawless 720p is anything like “shit”.
